The proper lighting is essential in every room of the house. Why should your game room be any different? No game room is complete without just the right amount of light to illuminate the billiards table. Island and billiard lamps are a great way to light up areas above the air hockey table, the pool table, the poker table, or just seating in the game room.
Billiard Lamps and Pool Table Lamps come in several styles, meet just about any budget, and can match any home decor with whimsical, themed, funky, or elegant light fixtures. One of the most popular choices for lighting above a central area, like a pool table, is multiple pendant lighting. These come in three, four, six and eight pendant sets, depending on the amount of light you want cast in a specific area. A dimmer switch is rather nice on these as well, especially if there is any natural light coming into the room. Brighter light might be required on some days, whereas others wouldn’t require as much and a more ambient light might be desired. Table lamps can be used in other areas of the game room to provide reading light or ambient light for simply relaxing.
If you prefer something unique, consider looking for antique billiard lights at an antique billiard supply store. Use the light fixture as the focal point and re-create a pool hall of the 1950’s or 1920’s for something really fun. Pool halls in the 1920’s often had what was called a Brunswick billiard light that had three shades.
Tiffany style, stained glass lights are timeless and work beautifully in a game room. Bold bright colors and designs set in a single rectangular hood are popular fixtures for game rooms. If you are a sports buff and have a favorite NCAA team or MLB team, look for a sport-themed billiard light fixture with the team’s colors and logo on the stained glass shapes in the lampshade.
Island and billiard lights are available with the billiard theme too. They feature pool sticks and pool ball sets in the glass. Stained glass island or billiard light fixtures featuring beer/liquor, cars/motorcycles, or soda brand logos can also add a personal touch to your game room.
If you choose a more elegant style of island or billiard pendant light fixture to place over your pool table or other focal point in your game room, consider using contemporary table lamps in the seating areas to further complement the rooms’ décor and provide task lighting for your family or guests.
It’s important to remember to hang the pendant light fixtures at the appropriate height for the correct amount of light. For example, a billiard light fixture should be hung roughly 36 inches above the pool table for the best illumination. If you are hanging a pendant light above a poker table, it should be suspended about 30 to 35 inches above the table.
Island and billiard lights come in every color imaginable: black, green, red, orange, blue, purple, yellow, gold, brown, white, or combinations of several colors together. They can be rectangular, oval, square or round in shape. No matter how you choose to decorate your game room, make sure you have ample lighting so everyone can see what they’re doing and have fun at the same time.
